The dynamic 21-year-old Sade Malek graduated Cum Laude for her Diploma in ICT in Business Analysis at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Autumn Graduation 2024 which was held at the Olive Convention Centre on Wednesday, 22 May 2024.
Her university journey proved to be a journey of adaptation, especially with the shift to remote learning. It took her some time to find rhythm, but she quickly realised the importance of self-discipline and independent study.
“With the finish line in sight, I had approached each challenge with confidence, determined to harness my strengths and address my weaknesses,” said Malek.
Malek acknowledged the guidance and support of lecturers like Mrs Ramraj and Mrs Gonsalves as they went above and beyond to assist her in navigating both her academic and career-related endeavours.
Sharing her joy towards her achievement, Malek said that from the day she had achieved Cum Laude she had felt excitement and relief.
“This goes beyond a personal achievement, this milestone held a deeper significance, it marked a historic moment for my family. I stood as the first person in my immediate family to journey through the halls of higher education,” she said.
She was thankful for their continuous support from her family and their countless encouragement which fuelled her journey.
Malek is currently a Business Analyst Graduate trainee at BET Software, where her days are filled with crafting functional requirement documents and handling various administrative tasks. She envisions to further her education and to obtaining certifications to sharpen her skills and propel her career forward.
Advising the first-year students, Malek shared the significance of establishing a disciplined schedule.
“Amidst the university life which will be very different for you, it’s crucial to stay clear from distractions and peer pressure. Passion fuels perseverance, so pour your heart into everything you do. Seek out opportunities that expand your life and pave the way for your professional journey,” concluded Malek.
