Sanele Doyisa (27), a student from the Durban University of Technology in the Department of Information Technology, graduated with his Degree of Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology Honours on 23 May 2024, Olive Convention Centre, at the DUT Autumn Graduation.

Doyisa is a robotics facilitator in the MICTSETA Centre of Excellence in the Faculty of Accounting and Informatics.

Doyisa’s academic journey has been one of resilience, commitment, and intellectual curiosity. The Bachelor of Information and Communications Technology Honours degree is a rigorous programme that not only demands a deep understanding of technical concepts but also the ability to apply such knowledge in practical, real-world scenarios. Doyisa had demonstrated exceptional proficiency in these areas, making him a well-deserved recipient of this accolade.

Doyisa’s path crossed with many mentors who played pivotal roles in his educational journey. One such key figure is the Executive Dean of the faculty of Accounting and Informatics: Professor Oludayo Olugbara. Prof Olugbara had been instrumental in empowering students like Doyisa to harness the power of robots and automation.

Under the mentorship of his mentor, Doyisa had engaged in numerous projects that had pushed the boundaries of his knowledge and skills. Sanele’s graduation is a testament to the collective efforts of the DUT community, highlighting the university’s commitment to providing high quality education and its focus on producing graduates who are ready to make significant contributions to their fields.

Doyisa expressed his appreciation to the faculty staff, academics, and everyone who played a significant role in his studies.

“I would like to thank the Almighty God, my parents and ancestors, and my mentor, Prof Olugbara, for all the sacrifices and support they made to ensure I graduate with my Honours degree,” he said.

Doyisa said that his journey served as an inspiration to current and future students, exemplifying what could be achieved through dedication, hard work, and the right guidance.
