Yasteel Dhani attributed his academic success to keeping his head down and working hard. He obtained his degree of Bachelor Information and Communications Technology Honours at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2024 Autumn Graduation ceremony, held at the Olive Convention Centre on Thursday, 23 May 2024.
Dhani (23) from Durban graduated Cum Laude and obtained the prestigious Dean’s Merit of Award for academic excellence for his ICT Honours degree. For him, this achievement reflected on all of the hard work, sleepless nights and moments of doubt, effort and dedication that has propelled him along his journey.
He commenced his journey with DUT after enrolling for a Higher certificate in Information Technology. Thereafter in 2019, he pursued his Diploma in Information and Communications Technology: Applications Development. Upon completion of his three-year Diploma, he went on to do his Advanced Diploma in Information and Communications Technology.
As a former Honours student, he felt that one of the biggest challenges he faced was research, especially within the IT field, where innovations and improvements were done on a daily basis.
“ It was difficult to choose the correct topic and develop a research paper that would positively contribute to the current IT landscape. Fortunately, with the guidance of an amazing supervisor in Dr Sulaiman Saleem Patel, I was able to craft a well-written Honours dissertation. At the start of my Honours degree, I had my mind set on graduating with Cum Laude, but the news of the prestigious Deans Merit Award was a welcomed pleasant surprise to both myself and my family,” shared Dhani.
He revealed he was fortunate enough to be working as a graduate SAP Developer at NTT DATA (formerly known as Dimension Data). He indicated his company places a lot of emphasis on youth and development. Therefore, he hopes to learn and gain as much knowledge as he can and use it to excel in his role, as well as make a meaningful impact to those around him.
