Ntethelelo Sibiya from Hluhluwe graduated Cum Laude for his Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting with the Dean’s Merit Award for academic excellence on Friday (24 May 2024) at the Durban University of Technology 2024 Autumn Graduation Ceremony held at the Olive Convention Centre, Durban.
Sibiya from Hluhluwe had shown that Durban University of Technology is competitive in all aspects. He is employed at DUT in Research and Postgraduate Support (RPS) within Research Information Management Systems (RIMS) as an Administrator.
His duties include being responsible for the monitoring regular collection of research output data, to assess the effectiveness and impact of DUT research activities.
Sibiya is currently enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma, in the Management Accounting programme. He had shared that his success reflected his dedication and sacrifices.
“The achievement of graduating Cum Laude filled me with overwhelming excitement and gratitude. It truly reflects the dedication and hard work I put into my studies,’ he said.
The Dean’s Merit awardee also revealed that what drew him to the field of management accounting was its challenging nature and capacity to foster critical thinking and strategic decision-making skills. He believes that it aligns well with his interests and strengths.
Despite various challenges, particularly in managing the balance between academic responsibilities and employment commitments. He persevered and stayed disciplined.
The 26-year-old praised his family who were filled with immersed joy for their support throughout his journey. “I am grateful to them, especially my mother who has been always a pillar of support and encouragement to me in pursuing my studies,’’ he added. His career aspirations revolve around attaining the designation of a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) through the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). He is planning to pursue a Masters in Management Accounting.
He further advised first-year students to approach their studies with diligence and to have a clear understanding of their motivations and objectives for pursuing the course.
