Nothando Dlamini was one of the learners who did not do well in their matric. But she never gave up; she upgraded her results and with dedication, she passed her matric very well. She then got the opportunity to further her studies at the Durban University of Technology (DUT).
She graduated Cum Laude for her Diploma in Management Sciences specialising in Human Resources at the DUT 2024 Autumn Graduation ceremony held at Olive Convention Centre, Durban on Saturday, 25 May 2024.
“I am so proud of myself for such a great achievement. It humbles me to see that my hardships and efforts have been reflected in such a positive manner. Graduating Cum Laude was a result of commitment, inspiration, and knowing exactly what I want for my career. I would personally reveal that it was never easy, but I was able to do it because I would motivate myself even on my worst days,’’ she said.
Dlamini hailing from Nazareth township, claimed that she had an incredible adventure at DUT, and praised her peers, friends, and lecturers for her academic success. Including her family for their support, especially her mother.
She takes immense pride in respect, honesty, accountability, integrity, and commitment which are amongst the DUT ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles.
“Respect originated from my self-love and respect, which has allowed me to respect others easily. I have committed to being truthful with myself and my work, owning up to my mistakes,’’ she said.
The satisfaction that comes with seeing other people grow and prosper to become the best of themselves has steered her into human resource studies.
“I believe I was born a leader, and that has been reflected through my two years of service of being a class representative and a house committee with the portfolio of being the residence secretary,’’ she said.
The 23-year-old is currently studying towards her Advanced Diploma in Human Resources Management at DUT. She aims to explore more in experiential learning and obtain a PhD in Human Resources. She also advised first-year students to have a vision and know exactly what they want for themselves in terms of their careers.
