CUM LAUDE GRADUATE, BONGIWE NGUBANE ADVISED STUDENTS TO TAKE INITIATIVE IN THEIR ACADEMICS

Bongiwe Ngubane who graduated Cum Laude for her Advanced Diploma in Management Sciences in Business Administration at the Durban University of Technology graduation ceremony has shared profound advice to students. She urged them to never compromise their integrity in pursuit of immediate gains.

She insisted that for students to be successful in their academics they must set clear goals for their academic and career progression. Take the initiative in pursuing opportunities that align with their aspirations. Whether it is pursuing advanced degrees, certifications, or leadership roles, proactively seek out opportunities to gain experience and advance in your chosen field.

“It is no secret that many of us come from humble backgrounds, and navigating university life can be especially daunting when support systems are scarce. However, never compromise your integrity in pursuit of immediate gains. Even in the toughest times, remember that there is still a higher power capable of making the impossible possible,’’ she said.

Ngubane (29) hailing from KwaXimba in KwaZulu Natal has always been enthusiastic about learning and exploring new things and inspired by her background, which instilled a keen sense of resilience.

Reflecting on his academic success, Ngubane shared that to be one of the top achievers in her faculty is an honour. “Being recognized by the institution in this manner is truly an honour. It validates the effort and dedication that each student has invested, making it all feel worthwhile. I am still astonished to find myself among the top achievers. I am wondering how this could be possible,’’ she said.

Among DUT ENVISION2030’s Living values and Principles, she aligns with respect. She claimed that it is a fundamental value that every individual should embody. She passionately believes that when you genuinely respect something or someone, causing harm becomes inconceivable. “Unfortunately, as we have seen, the erosion of self-respect and respect for others has made it distressingly easy to inflict harm on fellow human beings,’ she added.

Her DUT journey began in 2013 when she pursued a National Diploma in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying. The program equipped her with the necessary tools to excel in the industry and prepared her for the challenges ahead. She further revealed that graduating from DUT marked a significant milestone in her journey and laid the foundation for his career in construction and project management.

The KwaXimba-born is currently working at LDM Consulting (Pty) Ltd as a Candidate Construction Project Manager. She aims to continue expanding her knowledge and skills to take on more challenging roles and responsibilities within her profession and to obtain her Professional Registration as a Construction Project Manager.
