Sifanelesibonge Samukelisiwe Vilakazi’s academic choice was inspired by the global demand and her goal of leveraging data to generate potential solutions that can benefit the country.
Hailing from Estcourt, Hlathikhulu, Vilakazi (26) graduated Cum Laude for her Postgraduate Diploma in Management Sciences in Business Administration at Durban University of Technology graduation ceremony held at Olive Convention Centre, Durban on Monday (27 May 2024)
When she chose her studies, she looked beyond the confines of the South African market. She believes that while business administration may not always receive the same level of recognition domestically, it holds significant weight internationally.
Recognizing the global demand for skilled professionals in business administration, she saw this diploma program as a strategic investment in her future. Not only does it present international but it enables her with a versatile skill set that transcends geographical boundaries, affording her to thrive in a competitive global market.
“Abroad, this field is taken seriously, offering diverse career opportunities such as Business Analyst or Data Analyst roles. It aligns perfectly with my career ambitions and opens doors to a world of exciting opportunities both locally and internationally,” she said.
Reflecting on her Cum Laude attainment, Vilakazi recalled her mother’s inspiring words; I have done my part, now it is up to you to determine your path and shape your future.
“She inspired me a lot and her words set the tone for my journey ahead. This accomplishment comes as a pleasant surprise. It underscores the belief that diligent effort yields rewards. I hope that this distinction serves as a gateway to opportunities, both within academia and in the professional realm,’’ she said.
The ambitious young lady has always harboured a sense of untapped potential, aspiring to make meaningful contributions to society. She trusts that this accomplishment will validate that belief and help her establish a noteworthy presence in her chosen field.
She praised DUT lectures, study groups, and family for their pivotal role in her academic success. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, he remained steadfast in her commitment to academic excellence. Her dedication culminated in her graduating Cum Laude. “Balancing work commitments with academic pursuits. Through resilience and determination, I completed the program, further enriching my academic journey and paving the way for future endeavours,’’ she added.
Although Vilakazi intends to further her studies by pursuing Masters. Her immediate plan involves specializing in Data or Business Analytics. She believes that this specialization will not only enhance her skills but will also prepare her for master’s studies.
