Mthokozosi Brian Mseleku (27) a staff member at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) graduated for his Postgraduate Diploma in Public Relations and Communication Management. Mseleku, who is a Marketing Admin Assistant at the DUT Business School received his Postgraduate Diploma at the DUT 2024 Autumn Graduation ceremony which was held at the Olive Convention Centre on Monday, 27 May 2024.
Sharing about his journey at DUT, Mseleku, who is originally from Kwamakhutha township in Amanzimtoti, said he had joined DUT in 2017 as a student enrolled under the faculty of Management Sciences. He has a Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Public Relations and Communication Management.
He said his core duties includes coordinating advertising print media campaign, facilitating industry visits for marketing purposes, creating database of companies, administration non-subsidised courses and leasing with corporates to establish relations.
Explaining how he had managed a full-time job and his studies at the same time, Mseleku said he had managed to balance his work and studies by means of prioritising his work and studies and time management.
“Most of my challenges were just to manage the workload as with the Postgraduate Diploma, there is a research module that needed a lot of work but with little time, and through assistance from my supervisor I had managed to overcome that problem,” shared Mseleku.
Engaging and working with academics motivated Mseleku to further his studies. The experience showed him that in order to reach his dreams, he had to aim for the highest achievement through education.
“I aim to specialise in marketing and communication as my proposed master’s research will focus on the marketing tools and techniques used in the modern world of AI and 5G,” he said.
The advise he had shared with students wishing to embark on the same journey was that they should know where their interests are and try and stick to that stream so that they are passionate and enjoy studying that qualification while giving all of their time towards their studies.
