Durban University of Technology (DUT) officially launched the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, comprising five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect, and accountability. These values are underpinned by the principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion, and excellence. DUT Communications team member Vukani Langa, recently engaged in a conversation with Nombulelo Shongwe, Operations Intern at the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) People and Operations office to delve deeper into the Living Values Framework and ENVISION2030.
Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT
A: “I am an Operations Intern at the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) People and Operations office. My daily role is to oversee the day-to-day activities of the People and Operations office, ensuring that all procedures run smoothly and effectively.’’
Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family?
A: “I Joined DUT as an intern this year, 2024.’’
Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?
A: “I associate with accountability. I believe that this value instills self-discipline in a person. In that way it helps to propel people’s growth in being accountable for their actions. This may help people to value their work and increase self-confidence.”
Q: What are your views on the DUT tagline: Creative. Distinctive. Impactful?
A: “I find the slogan very inspirational. Ultimately everything we do should be to improve society as a whole.”
Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?
A: “By always aligning with the living values and ensuring that whatever I am doing adds value and success towards achieving the goals of DUT ENVISION2030.”
Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you?
A: “I have an introverted personality, and I am new to DUT. People are still discovering my personality.”
Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?
A: “By propelling DUT to continue being ranked as one of the best universities, and earning a position in the world’s university rankings.”
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: “I like reading novels and books.”
Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?
A: “By necessitating the skills I have accumulated through the years of my studies, and aligning with the ENVISION2030.”
Q: What is your daily motivation?
A: “To see myself at the highest ranks of my job description and making my parents proud.”
Q: What are your future goals at DUT?
A: “Growing and continuing to learn and adding value. Becoming an expert in my job description.”
Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?
A: “Having the means to assist those in need.”
