HIGH SCHOOL LEANERS SEE DUT AS A UNIVERSITY OF CHOICE

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted its Open Week for Grade 9 and 12 learners from Wednesday, 24 July 2024 to Saturday, 27 July 2024. This event aimed to provide the high school learners with valuable insights into the university’s faculties, departments, and programmes. DUT Communications team interviewed some of the learners who attended the DUT Open Week and this is what they had to say….

“I loved the experience being at DUT because I got to explore different fields that sparked my interest. I really appreciated everything that was happening there and it was a wonderful experience. I got a chance to picture myself as a DUT student.”

” A special thanks to DUT for inviting us to the Open Week. It was an amazing experience. We got to see the beautiful Steve Biko campus. The DUT staff were very welcoming and helpful. Everywhere I went there was someone willing to assist and provide guidance on any questions I asked.”

” I am super excited. I got a chance to speak and got advice from an Architecture lecturer. I am passionate about architecture and I will take his advice. He said I need to put more effort in what I do, this will be my motivation to work even harder. I am looking forward to joining DUT next year.”

Alwande Cele

“The experience I had here was been amazing. I saw a lot of things and gained more knowledge on choosing my career path. I am really grateful for the opportunity that DUT had offered. The DUT Open Week was my eye opener. All that is left is for me to put in the hard work in order to get space at DUT next year.

Lungelo Maduna

Lungelo Maduna (Grade 9) from Senzokwethu Secondary School

“I learnt a lot, as Grade 9 learners, they told us how to choose subjects when we reach grade 10, and shared potential job opportunities that will be available to us based on those choices. Attending this Open Week helped me a lot because without knowledge I was going to choose subjects without considering my desired career path and future job prospects. My wish is to become a DUT student in the future.”

Treyson Singh

Treyson Singh (Grade 9) from Umzinto Secondary School

“I had a great day and the course that really stood out for me was Business Law since I love helping other people and I love speaking. It was fascinating to get to know about the careers I am interested in. I got a chance to ask questions and get guidance from the DUT staff. This was an opportunity of a lifetime and I am certain it will help when the time comes to choose my subjects for Grade 10.”
