A: “I joined DUT Football in 2022.”

Q: What sparked your interest in this type of sport?

A: “I was already familiar with the sport from high school, so I decided to continue and join the university soccer team so I can play while I am studying.”

Q: In terms of the position you play, elaborate what it entails and how it benefits the team?

A: “The position I play is as a central defensive midfielder and is one of the most demanding positions on the soccer field. My primary role is to anticipate passes and break up opposition attack. Defending as a midfielder is just as important as creating goal-scoring opportunities. As to how it benefits the team it provides solidity and structure within the midfield and provide protection for the back line.”

Q: Which other sport codes are you interested in and why?

A “At this stage, there is no other sport I have interest in.”

A: “Sports is an additional form of entertainment for students, and there are many opportunities for students, especially in university athletics. Students who are physically active experience better focus, leading to enhanced academic performance.”

Q: Who is your sport role model and why?

A: “My role model is Thiago Alcântara, the former Liverpool midfielder because he is a playmaker who’s technically good and he is able to manipulate the ball in many ways. His vision, awareness and passing ability is what makes him my role model.”

Q: Which ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles do you associate with and why?

A: “I associate with integrity and doing the right thing even if there is no one that is watching. It’s important to always stay true to yourself no matter what the situation is.”

Q: Do you see a future in football?

A:”Possibly, if the opportunity arrives I would grab it with both hands.”

Q: As a DUT sport star, how does your role benefit your community?

A: “Being a sport star provides a positive outlet to kids so that they can spend their free time playing sports. Sports creates community engagement and interaction, helping to build stronger bonds within my neighbourhood.”

Q: What impact has sport made on your life?

A: “Sport has been my peace where I de-stress cancelling all the worries on the outside. I find happiness in the sport I play and I’m always happy to be on the field of play.”

Q: Can you suggest some ideas to attract spectators to varsity sport?

A: “I would suggest creating more sport programmes to accommodate students with different interests and likes. The more the merrier.”
