The Durban University of Technology’s (DUT) Advancement and Alumni Relations Unit, in collaboration with Recruiters Care, successfully hosted its inaugural Skills Workshop Series on 26 February 2025, at the DUT Hotel School-Conference Room (Ritson Campus). This workshop, which focused on curriculm vitaes (CVs) and cover Letter writing, provided a valuable platform for students and alumni to enhance their professional skills and boost their employability prospects.
Facilitated by industry expert Mrs Ruth Nielsen-Jopson, the hybrid workshop drew an impressive turnout, with 447 online attendees joining via Microsoft Teams, while 38 participants engaged in person. The interactive session was designed to equip attendees with essential knowledge on crafting compelling CVs and cover letters, tailored to meet industry standards and employer expectations.
The workshop fostered a dynamic and engaging atmosphere, encouraging participants to ask questions, share experiences, and receive expert feedback. Through these engagements attendees gained firsthand insights into the best practices for job applications, ensuring they stand out in a competitive job market.
Speaking at the event, Ms Ronelle Lyson, Alumni Relations Coordinator, emphasised the importance of such initiatives in empowering DUT students and alumni. “This is just the beginning. The Skills Workshop Series is the first of many that we will be hosting throughout the year, as we strive to equip our graduates with the tools necessary to succeed in their careers.”
The success of this workshop underscores DUT’s commitment to fostering career readiness and strengthening its alumni engagement efforts. By partnering with Recruiters Care, the university is actively bridging the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that DUT graduates are well-prepared to navigate the evolving job landscape.
