The Durban University of Technology (DUT) proudly congratulates Dr Jean Chrysostome Kimbuku Kiyala and Professor Dorcas Ettang on their esteemed appointment to the Global Jury of the International Science Prize (ISP), presented by the Hans Günter Brauch Foundation for Peace and Ecology in the Anthropocene.
Prof Ettang and Dr Kiyala, from the International Centre of Nonviolence at DUT, join an internationally recognised panel of scholars from leading academic institutions across the globe. Their appointment affirms DUT’s growing influence on international platforms dedicated to transformative research on peace, climate change and sustainable development.
The International Science Prize (ISP) honours groundbreaking academic work that explores the intersections of peace, environmental sustainability and the human condition in the Anthropocene era. In 2025, the theme is “Impacts of Wars and Global Environmental and Climate Change on Food Insecurity, Hunger and Migration.” http://hgb-stiftung.org/html/Science_Prize_2025.html The Prize rewards a significant scholarly contribution, either a book published since January 2020 or a recently accepted doctoral thesis or manuscript, with €3,000 (approximately R65 000) travel support to Germany and recognition at a prestigious award ceremony in Mosbach on 09 October 2025.
DUT is also pleased to announce that the 2025 call for nominations is now open. Scholars across all disciplines are invited to submit their work by 31 May 2025. The ISP particularly welcomes submissions from scholars in Africa, Asia and Latin America, and in cases where entries are deemed equal, preference will be given to women researchers or those based in these regions.
The Durban University of Technology extends its heartfelt congratulations to Professor Ettang on her new role and celebrates the continued contributions of Dr Kiyala, who served on the ISP Jury since 2023.
Their involvement not only elevates DUT’s global academic footprint but also strengthens the university’s commitment to its philosophy of education, which states “our creativity and innovation shapes adaptive graduates who transform society.”
