DUT IMPACT

Durban University of Technology (DUT) officially launched the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework, comprising five core values: transparency, honesty, integrity, respect and accountability. These values are underpinned by the principles of fairness, professionalism, commitment, compassion and excellence. DUT Communications team member, Thubelihle Dumakude recently engaged in a conversation with Nokulunga Majozi, Network Engineer Intern at the DUT ICTS Department, to delve into the Living Values Framework and ENVISION2030.

Q: Kindly tell me about your role at DUT?

A: “I am an intern in ICTS Department  under Networking and Infrastructure section as a Network Engineer. I troubleshoot Networking related issues. I am currently working with a team that is upgrading the telephone system to make it easy for the DUT community to communicate.”

Q: How long have you been a member of the DUT family? 

A: “It has been four years since I became a member of the DUT family. I studied Information  Technology (IT) for three years and shortly after my graduation,  I then started my internship with  ICTS Department.”

Q: Amongst the mentioned ENVISION2030 Living Values and Principles, which one do you mostly associate with and why?

A: “The one that I mostly associate myself with is commitment. As a Networking Engineer intern, I am committed to keeping the DUT community connected with the new telephone system that we are currently implementing.”

Q: What are your views on the DUT tagline: Creative, Distinctive, Impactful? 

 A: “This tagline is a direct reflection of DUT’s commitment to innovation, embracing uniqueness and to contributing to the society. It is intended to inspire DUT community to be impactful and be the needed change in the community.”

Q: How are you planning to keep abreast with the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework?

 A: “By applying the Living Values Framework daily and participate in related events to continue learning and growing.”

Q: What is the one thing that most people do not know about you? 

 A: “I am a food blogger with a passion for cooking and creating new recipes in my free time. In 2023, I had my own business, Mandabezitha’s Kitchen, which gave me a chance to showcase my love for the culinary arts.”

Q: In your opinion, how will the ENVISION2030 Living Values Framework benefit DUT?

A: “DUT’s adoption of ENVISION2030 Living Values will produce top-notch graduates, enhancing its global standing among leading universities.”

 Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?  

 A: “Learning new technologies and cooking.”

Q: How do you plan to make a positive impact at DUT?  

 A: I would like to make a positive impact by sharing what I have learnt on my current training as an intern with other new young women like me who wish to be in the IT industry  since IT Networking is mostly male dominated.”

Q: What is your daily motivation?

A: “Working with highly educated professionals and seeing clients satisfied after resolving their networking issues motivates me to grow and improve.”

Q: What are your future goals at  DUT? 

A: My future goals at DUT is to engage myself with more IT projects that are currently running and learn as much as I can.

Q: If you were granted one wish, what would it be?

A: “It would be to see myself becoming a full time member of the DUT community as a permanent Employee  at the ICTS Department.”
