DUT’S THIRD ANNUAL FUNDRAISER A SOLD-OUT CELEBRATION OF 90’S NOSTALGIA AND 21 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE

The Advancement and Alumni Relations unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hit the right notes with its third Annual Barnyard Theatre Fundraiser, recently held at the Barnyard Theatre at Suncoast Casino in Durban. With a vibrant ‘90s Mania’ theme, the event dazzled from start to finish, drawing a sold-out crowd of 397 enthusiastic attendees.

Spearheaded by Ms Ronelle Lyson, Coordinator: Alumni Relations and her team, the evening was a vibrant celebration of music, memory, and community. The fundraiser not only brought together alumni, staff, and friends of DUT but also marked a significant milestone of 21 years since DUT’s transition from the Durban Institute of Technology (DIT) to the Durban University of Technology, a journey of academic excellence and innovation.

The night was filled with joy and nostalgia as guests were treated to a lively showcase of 90s hits, delivered with flair by the Barnyard performers. Laughter, singing, and spontaneous dancing created an electric atmosphere.

Adding to the evening’s excitement were a host of prize giveaways, with the highlight being a playful and symbolic tribute to DUT’s 21-year celebration. A special 21 key was hidden somewhere within the venue, and attendees were invited to take part in a thrilling hunt. The lucky winners of this nostalgic challenge were Yashmay Bhika and Aria Bhika, two sisters who discovered the key and won a R500 voucher from the Pavilion Shopping Mall, bringing a special sparkle to an already unforgettable night.

Ms Lyson shared her gratitude, saying: “This annual event continues to grow in impact and reach. We are deeply thankful to our alumni, supporters, and corporate partners who help us keep the DUT spirit alive and vibrant. We look forward to even greater milestones as we reflect on our past and build our future.”

The Advancement and Alumni Relations unit extended a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended and who had contributed to the success of the evening.
