Being recognised for academic excellence was the highlight of Amanda Dlamini’s graduation. She graduated Cum Laude and obtained the prestigious Dean’s Merit Award for her Advanced Diploma in Shipping and Logistics at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2025 Autumn Graduation Ceremony at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Monday, 19 May 2025.
Dlamini’s interest in the global movement of goods and understanding on how the shipping and logistics industry plays a vital role in the economy, motivated her to further her studies and excel in her field. She is currently employed as a Local Import Supervisor at King of Tiles. Her job involves overseeing the import process, ensuring that all goods are received, cleared, and delivered on time.
“I am currently working in the shipping industry, and that experience has deepened my passion for the field. Studying towards the Advanced Diploma in Shipping and Logistics was a strategic decision to gain more knowledge and skills that can help me grow professionally and make a meaningful contribution to the industry. It gave me a deeper understanding of the global supply chain, maritime operations, and logistics management,” she explained.
Sharing her excitement on obtaining a Dean’s Merit Award, Dlamini said it reflected all the hard work, dedication, and late nights she had put into her studies. She saw it as a special reminder that staying focused and not giving up really does pay off in the end.
Dlamini closely associated with the DUT values of integrity and accountability.
“Integrity is important in both academic and professional settings, and I have always tried to be honest and ethical in my work. Accountability is also important to me since I believe in taking full responsibility for my actions and commitments, whether it’s meeting deadlines, contributing to group projects, or exceeding expectations. These values have guided me throughout my studies and continue to shape how I conduct myself in every aspect of life,” reiterated Dlamini.
Her aim is to grow in the shipping and logistics industry. She wants to gain more experience, improve her skills, and take on more responsibilities. In the future, she hopes to move into a management or leadership role where she can help improve processes and make a bigger impact in the industry.
“The shipping and logistics industry is always changing, so it’s important to stay updated on new trends and technologies. Get as much practical experience as you can, whether through internships or part-time work. Networking is also key, build connections with people in the industry. Most importantly, be patient and persistent; success doesn’t happen overnight, but with hard work and dedication, you’ll get there,” advised Dlamini.
