Rebekka Mweetha Angula, a driven and passionate individual from northern Namibia, has earned a notable achievement by completing her Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering with Cum Laude at the Durban University of Technology (DUT). Throughout her academic journey, she demonstrated excellence and a steadfast commitment to her objectives, undergoing a transformative experience that shaped her personal and professional growth.

Angula’s academic achievement is a testament to her hard work and dedication. She graduated Cum Laude, a distinction that reflects her exceptional performance throughout the program. The Advanced Diploma in Marine Engineering provided her with the necessary skills and knowledge to meet the academic requirements for Marine Engineering Officer certification.

“I needed this diploma to meet the academic requirements for Marine Engineering Officer certification. DUT offered not just the curriculum, but also a supportive learning environment, particularly through the guidance of lecturers like Ms. Sihle Mthembu and Mr. Sibonelo Bhengu,” said Angula.

Being in a foreign country added emotional and psychological pressure, but Angula’s determination and perseverance ultimately paid off, leading to her successful graduation ,despite the challenges of maintaining motivation and consistency during tough periods. She strongly associates with DUT’s values of respect, commitment, and integrity.

“I associate strongly with respect, which is one of my core values. It shaped how I engaged with others and contributed to a positive academic environment. I also value commitment, as I believe in hard work, taking initiative, and staying consistent. Those are qualities that helped me navigate the demands of the program, as the program required a lot of independent study, consistency and effort. Additionally, integrity, excellence, honesty, fairness, and professionalism guided my conduct throughout my journey,” she explained.

Angula aims to become a highly skilled and well-rounded engineer, contributing meaningfully to marine and mechanical industries. She is currently working as a trainee Marine Engineering Officer at Debmarine Namibia and has been selected as a fellow of the WomEng Southern Africa 2025 Fellowship. This recognition has inspired her to continue making a positive impact in the engineering world.
