Fezeka Majombozi, a 22-year-old student leader from Mbongolwane, Eshowe, celebrated a proud academic achievement after graduating with an Advanced Diploma in Management Sciences: Business Law at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2025 Autumn Graduation ceremony, held at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Thursday, 22 May 2025.
Majombozi, who is currently pursuing her Postgraduate Diploma in Management Sciences: Business Law said her graduation marked a moment of immense pride not only for herself but for her entire family.
“Coming from a humble background as the last-born child, every achievement has been a celebration at home,” explained Majombozi.
Over the past few years, Fezeka’s journey at DUT has been shaped by more than just academic success. She has served for two consecutive years on the DUT Student Representative Council (SRC) as the Sports and Recreation Officer. This experience had a profound impact on her leadership skills and confirmed her commitment to serving others.
“Being entrusted by the student body was one of the most defining moments of my life; it taught me emotional intelligence, strategic thinking, and what it truly means to lead with purpose,” she reflected.
Supported by the Department of Student Governance through ongoing capacity-building initiatives, Majombozi grew from a passionate representative into an adaptive and solution-driven leader.
“Their support, guidance, and belief in our potential as student leaders have been invaluable, and I remain deeply grateful,” she said.
Majombozi has built a purposeful academic path rooted in her long-standing passion for legal, corporate, and governance matters. She reflected on a journey of determination, discipline, and a clear vision for her future. Her goal is not only to succeed in the field but to push forward into doctoral studies, specialising in business law and governance, areas she believes are critical for ethical leadership and institutional accountability.
Throughout her academic career, Majombozi maintained a proactive approach to her studies, consistently positioning herself as both a student and a problem-solver. She acknowledged that the road has not been without challenges, but insisted that adopting a solution-oriented mindset made all the difference. She also pointed out that accessing help, asking questions, and engaging with DUT’s support systems played an important role in her success. She also praised lecturers and Heads of Department for creating a supportive environment where students feel heard and valued.
Majombozi has also been an active participant in student leadership, a role she has taken on with seriousness and purpose. Although this responsibility has demanded a great deal of her time and energy, leaving little room for outside employment, she remains focused on her academic and professional development. Leadership, in her view, is not about titles or positions, but about service, accountability, and meaningful contribution.
Transparency is a value she holds close, seeing it as the foundation upon which all other institutional values, honesty, integrity, accountability, and respect rest.
“Without transparency, these values collapse under the weight of inconsistency,” she explained. This commitment shapes not only her academic work but also her leadership style and future ambitions.
Majombozi’s time at DUT has by her own account, been nothing short of transformative. She describes it as a space where hard work meets personal growth, and where every challenge comes with a lesson that helps shape her into the leader she is today. As she prepares to step into the next chapter of her journey, she does so with gratitude for the experiences that tested and strengthened her.
She hopes to use her qualifications to make a tangible impact in the field of business law and governance, advocating for systems that are fair, transparent, and grounded in ethical practice. With her sights set on postgraduate studies, Majombozi embodies the kind of leadership DUT aims to build: principled, forward-thinking, and committed to academic excellence.
