Recognising the academic achievements of the Durban University of Technology students who have worked had to fulfil the university graduation requirements in character and learning was the order of the day at the DUT 2025 Autumn Graduation ceremony, which was held at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Monday, 26 May 2025.
Dr Khunjulwa Ntengenyane was excited to have graduated with his Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Library And Information Science, an important landmark in his life.
Dr Ntengenyane’s shared on dissertation titled: A Framework for the Management of Digital Court Records for Justice Delivery in Selected High Courts in the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.
“The advent of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) has led to exponential growth of digital records. Notably this has revolutionised creation, capture, use, management and preservation of digital records as long as they are required. Courts are increasingly harnessing ICT to manage digital records for efficient and effective service delivery,” he said.
Dr Ntengenyane indicated further that this research sought to investigate the management of digital court records for justice delivery in the selected High Courts in the Eastern Cape Province, with a view to propose a framework for management of digital court records for justice delivery by the courts covered by the study.
“The findings revealed several challenges to efficient and effective management of digital court records. Notably there were inadequacies in technological infrastructure, technical support and skills and knowledge in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT),” he affirmed.
Dr Ntengenyane emphasised that the study recommends a continuous digital court records management training programme for court staff and other related or relevant personnel; and the enhancement of the infrastructure and the management of digital court records within the national framework of the management of electronic public records.
