The Faculty of Accounting and Informatics at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) in partnership with the Moses Kotane Research Institute (MKRI) and the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA), is proud to announce the official launch of the Smart Robotics Lab, a state-of-the-art facility designed to drive innovation, skills development and research in robotics and automation technologies.

This groundbreaking initiative aims to position DUT as a hub for 4IR-focused education and applied research, while equipping students and industry practitioners with future-ready skills in robotics, artificial intelligence, and smart manufacturing.
DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu, representatives from MKRI and merSETA, industry leaders, government stakeholders, researchers and students will be in attendance to witness the unveiling of the lab and engage in discussions on the transformative role of smart technologies in education and economic development.
The launch of the Smart Robotics Lab at DUT underscores a shared commitment to developing a pipeline of skilled professionals who can contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s innovation ecosystem and industrial revitalisation agenda.
