The Faculty of Management Sciences at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) is gearing up to host Ukhozi FM ‘Kuyabikwa’ Sports Day at the Fred Crookes Sport Centre, Steve Biko campus in Durban on Saturday, 19 July 2025 from 09h00 onwards. This year’s event highlights the Zulu proverb: Okwehlula Amadoda Kuyabikwa, which encourages men not to suffer in silence but seek help from those around them.
Ukhozi FM FC featuring some of the popular presenters will be playing against AmaZulu FC consisting of some of the legends, Isolezwe FC and the Premier Foods FC in a four-way soccer tournament. This prestigious event held under the theme: #AkhonaAmadodaAqotho (There Are Good Men) will be in commemoration of the KwaZulu-Natal Men’s Month. It aims to inspire men to be “good men” who fight against all forms of violence against women and children.
Through this event, Ukhozi FM will celebrate, honour, and appreciate men for their ongoing contribution to society, family, and the workplace. This fun-filled day is designed to allow men to unwind, engage in friendly competition, and promote wellness through sport.
According to Mrs Zinhle Zungu-Rashee, Head of Marketing at the DUT Business School and Dr Nkululeko Zungu, Community Engagement Coordinator under the Faculty of Management Sciences said this event stems from the recently signed three-year strategic partnership between DUT and AmaZulu FC (Usuthu). It is a build up to the Faculty of Management Sciences (FMS) Second Annual Sports Day, which will be held on Friday, 22 August 2025, at DUT.
“Hosting Ukhozi FM Sports Day will help to elevate both the Faculty of Management Sciences and DUT as active contributors to student life and community-driven initiatives. We are excited of this strategic partnership with Ukhozi FM, a national radio station with a reach of over 7 million listeners. DUT, through the Faculty of Management Sciences, will be prominently featured as hosts of the Ukhozi FM Sports Day. This initiative provides a high-impact national platform to showcase DUT’s contributions to sport, youth empowerment, and social cohesion,” shared Mrs Zungu-Rashee.
Beyond the soccer tournament, this event will include community engagement activities, promotional platforms for stakeholders, health awareness, blood donations, and live entertainment. It is open to the DUT community at no cost; guests are welcome to bring their camp chairs and umbrellas to the venue.
