The Durban University of Technology (DUT) is celebrating another proud achievement following the announcement that Ms Nonsikelelo Patricia Badenhorst, a Postgraduate Librarian at DUT, has been named the Research Support Librarian of the Year by the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA).

Sponsored by Worldwide Information Services (WWIS), this prestigious national award recognises librarians who go above and beyond in advancing research support, empowering researchers, curating knowledge and integrating innovation within academic library services.

Ms Badenhorst’s recognition reflects her exceptional commitment to excellence and her outstanding contribution to strengthening the research ecosystem at DUT. As a key member of the DUT Smart Library team, she has played a vital role in providing innovative, inclusive, and transformative research support services that align with DUT’s vision of being a people-centred and engaged university.

Her work ethic, professionalism and dedication have earned her respect across the university community, and this accolade stands as a testament to her unwavering pursuit of excellence.

“Patricia continues to embody the DUT Smart Library’s ethos of supporting our research enterprise in a manner that is open, developmental, inclusive, impactful, transformative and sustainable,” said Dr Malefetjane Phaladi, Director, DUT Library Services. He added, “Her leadership and commitment to excellence inspire both colleagues, postgraduate students and researchers alike, truly living the values and principles of our ENVISION2030 strategy.”

The LIASA Awards Ceremony, took place last Friday in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), in the Eastern Cape, where Ms Badenhorst received the honour among peers from academic, public and research institutions across South Africa.
