DUT ATTENDS THE 7th ANNUAL EDHE STUDENTPRENEUR INDABA

The 7th Annual EDHE Studentpreneur Indaba kicked off on Monday 06 October in Pretoria, as student entrepreneurs from across the country, including our own innobiz DUT Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation entrepreneurs, descended upon the nation’s capital for a jampacked two day programme.

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) has been represented by a strong group of eight student entrepreneurs and the entourage’s leader, Mr Thintani Dlamini, innobiz DUT Business Support Coordinator, at this year’s Indaba hosted by the University of South Africa (Unisa) at its Muckleneuk Campus from 06 to 07 October 2025.

Held under the theme Entrepreneurship4Sustainability, the first day’s proceedings kicked off with a warm welcome from the host university’s Vice Chancellor and Principal Professor Puleng LenkaBula to the hundreds of guests attending the Indaba.

In her address, Prof LenkaBula encouraged student entrepreneurs to think globally and strive to ensure that their enterprises found a footing in the international entrepreneurship community, citing luminaries such as Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe who had founded a women’s clinic that became globally competitive.

“This is a case study of people who look just like you, people who have gone on to create businesses that have found ground internationally including TymeBank. It is also important for you to look at legacies and its forebears in business, in entrepreneurship, and in society who you can use as anchors for your own business,” Prof LenkaBula said, imparting pearls of wisdom to the gathered student entrepreneurs and delegates.

Highlighting the importance of taking education seriously, Prof LenkaBula implored that to the student entrepreneurs and Indaba delegates that it was through education and business acumen that they would achieve their dreams. She also highlighted the significance of networking for the student entrepreneurs, encouraging them to build ties and long lasting relationships with a variety of connections.

“I want in this meeting, as we think about how to support you in your business processes, to really centre business ethics as an important imperative so that you don’t just make quick money and it gets finished, but you make sustainable income through your businesses and your enterprise development,” said Prof LenkaBula.
