DUT’S DR MASUKU APPOINTED AS KZN REGIONAL SECRETARY OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS 

DUT’S DR MASUKU APPOINTED AS KZN REGIONAL SECRETARY OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS 

Dr Andile Masuku, a Student Development Officer under the Student Development and Governance Unit at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) was recently appointed as the KwaZulu-Natal Regional Secretary of the National Association of Student Development Professionals (NASDEV). He will serve in this position for the next two years, until the end of the current NASDEV National Executive Committee term of office in 2027. 

Sharing the exciting news with the DUT Dean of Students, Dr Clement Moreku, the national Secretary General of NASDEV, Ms Zipho Khumalo said Dr Masuku was appointed by the NASDEV National Executive Committee after review and consultation.

“Dr Masuku will work closely with the Regional Coordinator to support and facilitate NASDEV activities in KZN. We are confident that his experience and commitment will be instrumental as we intensify our regional engagement efforts. We remain grateful for DUT’s ongoing support and partnership, which continues to strengthen our student development initiatives,” reiterated Ms Khumalo.

Reflecting on his appointment, Dr Masuku shared he was excited and honoured to serve under NASDEV, which he described as the leading body for Student Services and Development Practice within the Post-School Education and Training sector.

“The Durban University of Technology is affiliated with NASDEV, and as an institution, we have been intentional about this affiliation, as it often informs our practices in Student Governance, Student Development, and Student Engagement. My involvement in the committee began earlier this year when the National President and Provincial Coordinator convened a meeting with all universities in KwaZulu-Natal to elect the KZN Regional Secretary. During that meeting, I was elected to the position, and my appointment was subsequently endorsed by the National Executive Committee,” shared Dr Masuku.

He has expressed his appreciation to his colleagues who have been who have been supportive throughout the process of his nomination, earlier this year.

Providing insight on his duties Dr Masuku said: “As an extended member of the NASDEV NEC, I will play a key role in supporting the Regional Coordinator in facilitating NASDEV activities within the KwaZulu-Natal Region. This appointment presents a valuable opportunity for me to establish a platform that fosters meaningful engagement and collaboration with colleagues from various universities across the country.”

He intends to contribute to enhancing DUT’s national presence and influence, particularly in the domains of student governance, leadership, and holistic student development.

In this new role, Dr Masuku aspires to actively support the Regional Coordinator in planning and executing impactful programmes and initiatives across KwaZulu-Natal. Through these efforts, he aims to contribute to the growth and recognition of his province, ensuring that KZN is prominently represented and celebrated at regional and national levels.
