The DUT Advancement and Alumni Relations Team proudly celebrates Dr Shamanie Govender has been selected as our Alumnus of the Month for November 2025!

Dr Shamanie Govender is a distinguished academic and clinical technology professional known for her leadership, research excellence, and commitment to student development. A Lecturer in DUT’s Department of Biomedical & Clinical Technology, she coordinates the fourth-year programme and has held key roles such as Chair of the Research Sub-Committee, OSCE Panel, and the former Clinical Technology Advisory Board.

Her clinical leadership experience includes managing renal and acute care services across KZN, strengthening her expertise in operations and quality assurance. She holds a PhD in Health Sciences, with NRF-funded research on medicinal plants for chronic kidney disease and contributes to academia as a journal reviewer and ethics committee member. Recognised among the Mail & Guardian Top 200 Young South Africans (2022) and honoured with the nGAP Recognition Award of Excellence (2025), Dr Govender is a committed advocate for transformation, mentorship, and capacity building — embodying the excellence and impact of a true DUT alumna.
