Walking with pride at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) 2026 Autumn Graduation Ceremony, Makhosesizwe Ntuthuko Nzama (31) stepped into his moment of glory after successfully completing his Postgraduate Diploma in Management Sciences (Business Administration) on Tuesday, 12 May 2026 at the Indumiso Hall, Pietermaritzburg.
The SRC Administration Assistant, who is from KwaMaphumulo, was dedicated to his studies and his role at DUT as an admin assistant, ensuring that everything runs smoothly.
Sharing his journey at the DUT, he began his academic path in 2014, enrolling for a Diploma in Ecotourism. The journey was not without its challenges, financial constraints made the road difficult, and securing a bursary proved to be an uphill battle. However, persistence eventually paid off when he was awarded financial support that became a turning point in his studies.
Transitioning into university life was also no easy feat. Adapting to a new, academic environment required resilience, patience, and focus. Through careful observation and a willingness to learn, he gradually found his footing, adjusted to the demands of higher education, and ultimately thrived. His story reflects determination, growth, and the power of perseverance in the face of adversity.
He also mentioned that his family was equally excited and overjoyed upon hearing the news because they knew about the struggles he had faced before receiving the bursary. He explained that finding accommodation had also been a major challenge which required him to step up as a man and become independent to provide for himself. He further mentioned that his family had been over the moon, as the bursary brought relief, hope, and motivation for a brighter future.
He said that he is looking forward to continuing with his studies and believes strongly in education. He added that his daily motivation comes from his parents, who have always supported and encouraged him throughout his academic journey. He further expressed that their sacrifices and belief in him push him to work harder and remain focused on achieving his goals.
“My family has taught me how to respect others, and that has been helping me my entire life. I would love to encourage first year students to familiarised themselves with the ENVISION20230 strategy. They must be grateful for this strategy because it makes life so easy and strive for excellence,” he advised.
