Qhawe Mncwabe, former Acting Sport Officer at the Durban University Technology (DUT) Sport unit in Pietermaritzburg, celebrated a remarkable academic achievement that reflects his dedication, courage, and determination to grow beyond limits.
Hailing from Pietermaritzburg, he graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Ecotourism. Qhawe described the moment as deeply meaningful and unforgettable. He shared that the journey was not easy, but standing proudly at graduation filled him with joy.
“This moment was incredibly special and meant a great deal to me. Achieving this milestone was not easy, but I feel excited and truly over the moon about the experience,” he said.
While many expected him to continue only within the sports field as he holds a Diploma in Sport Management, he chose to challenge himself by venturing into ecotourism. According to him, remaining comfortable in one space can sometimes limit personal growth. Qhawe wanted to explore new opportunities that would test his abilities and push him beyond his boundaries.
“I saw ecotourism as the perfect opportunity to push myself to greater heights because it is closely connected to sports, especially through traveling, which has already been a big part of my journey in sports,” he added.
Ecotourism became the perfect path because it still connected with his passion for travel and people, experiences he had already encountered through sports.
Mncwabe believes his success was made possible through the unwavering support of his family, friends, and colleagues. He acknowledged that each person played a meaningful role in helping him reach this important milestone. Sharing such a special occasion with his parents, he said it is a memory he will treasure forever.
Speaking to first-year students and the sports family, Qhawe encouraged unity, love, and commitment to the vision of ENVISION2030. He reminded young people that life will always come with challenges and shortcomings, but they should never allow difficulties to discourage them from achieving their dreams. Instead, they must continue pushing forward with determination, focus, and hope for a brighter future.
