What began as a journey filled with pressure, anxiety, and self-doubt ended in triumph for 23-year-old Kerusha Mudaliar, who proudly graduated Cum Laude and Deans merit award for Advanced Diploma in Internal Auditing during the Durban University of Technology(DUT) 2026 Autumn Graduation Ceremony held at the Olive Convention Centre on Monday morning, 18 May 2026.
For the Durban-born graduate, this achievement is far more than an academic qualification. It is a reflection of perseverance, discipline, and the courage to keep going even during the most difficult moments.
Kerusha described her academic journey as one of growth and self-discovery, admitting that there were times when the pressure to succeed became overwhelming. Despite the challenges, she remained determined to achieve her goals and refused to give up on herself.
“My journey at DUT has been nothing short of extraordinary. There were moments when I felt anxious and overwhelmed because of the pressure to perform academically, but I kept reminding myself why I started. Through hard work and determination, I persevered,” she said.
Graduating Cum Laude and Deans Merits awards holds deep personal meaning for Kerusha, as it symbolises the sacrifices, late nights, and unwavering consistency that shaped her journey.
“It is not just about the marks, but everything I had to go through to get here. This achievement means so much to me and my family. Seeing how proud they had reminded me that every stressful moment and every sacrifice was worth it in the end,” she shared.
Throughout her studies, Kerusha remained committed to the values of academic excellence and integrity, principles she believes are essential both in higher education and in building a successful career.
Her passion for finance and understanding how businesses operate behind the scenes inspired her to pursue Internal Auditing, a field she says perfectly aligns with her love for analysis, problem-solving, and attention to detail.
Currently working as a Financial Intern at GBS Holdings, Kerusha said the opportunity has given her valuable industry exposure and strengthened her passion for the finance and auditing sector.
“Being in a professional environment has helped me apply the knowledge I gained during my studies while improving my skills and confidence. It has motivated me even more to build a successful career in finance and auditing,” she explained.
Looking ahead, Kerusha plans to further her studies by pursuing a Master’s degree in Internal Auditing while continuing to grow professionally within the finance industry.
Reflecting on her journey, she encouraged fellow students to remain focused and believe in themselves, even when faced with challenges.
“It is okay to feel overwhelmed at times, but do not let that stop you. Stay consistent, ask for help when you need it, and always believe in yourself. Never stop reaching for the stars,” she advised.
Kerusha credited her success to the unwavering support of her family, friends, and those who stood by her throughout her academic journey. She said the experience taught her that resilience, discipline, and support can help turn even the toughest moments into success stories.
