REGISTRY DIVISION HONOURS GRADUATING STUDENT LEADERS AND STAFF AT DUT LUNCHEON 2026 GRADUATION

The Registry Division at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted a Graduation Celebratory Luncheon at the Hotel School on Friday, 05 June 2026. The event honoured the academic achievements of student leaders and Student Services staff members who recently graduated during the DUT 2026 Autumn Graduation ceremonies.

The luncheon aligned with DUT’s Living Values, particularly the value of excellence, and provided an opportunity to recognise the graduates’ dedication and commitment to academic achievement while successfully balancing their leadership and professional responsibilities.

In his opening remarks, Dean of Students Dr Clement Moreku welcomed guests, staff members, and graduates to the celebration. He congratulated the graduates on reaching a significant academic milestone and commended them for their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to completing their studies. He noted that while many begin academic journeys, it takes determination and resilience to complete them, and the occasion served as an important moment to celebrate their success.

Mr Masiza Ngculu, Manager of Student Governance, explained the purpose of the event, noting that it honoured student leaders and Student Services staff members who had graduated during the 2026 Autumn Graduation ceremonies. He congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to view their achievement as a stepping stone toward further growth and development.

Delivering the congratulatory message, Interim Director of Student Services and Development, Ms Sthembile Mjadu, described the achievement as a milestone not only for the graduates themselves but also for the broader Student Services community. She commended staff members and student leaders for balancing academic commitments with their responsibilities to students while continuing to serve with dedication and excellence.

Interim Deputy Registrar Mr Vikesh Singh highlighted the resilience and commitment demonstrated by both student leaders and staff members in balancing academic, work, and professional responsibilities. He encouraged graduates to remain proud of their achievement and to continue applying the principles of excellence and lifelong learning in their future roles. He also recognised the importance of support systems such as families, peers, and supervisors in their success.

He further reminded graduates that graduation marks the beginning of a new journey. He encouraged them to lead with compassion, build with integrity, and serve with excellence in all their future endeavours.

The Interim Deputy Vice Chancellor: People and Operations, Dr David Mohale, congratulated the graduates and acknowledged the contribution of staff and student leaders in supporting student success. He emphasised the importance of teamwork within the university system, noting that all role players contribute to teaching, learning, research, and innovation.

Dr Mohale encouraged graduates and staff to apply their knowledge meaningfully by identifying gaps in their environments and offering practical solutions. He cautioned against allowing knowledge to remain unused, stressing the importance of applying education to address both institutional and societal challenges.

He further encouraged graduates to see themselves as future leaders who must build on existing progress and contribute to shaping a better future for the next generation.

Among the guests who shared messages of encouragement were SRC Secretary General Mr Samkelo Ngubo, HIV and AIDS Coordinator Dr Thobile Zulu, and Ms Kholeka Mfeka. They congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence in their personal and professional lives.

In his closing remarks, DUT Registrar Dr Maditsane Nkonoane congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to remain humble as they progress in their careers. He reminded them that true success is not only measured by personal achievement but also by the ability to uplift others. He urged graduates to use their knowledge and opportunities to make a positive impact on society.
