A Durban University of Technology (DUT) student leader, Mongezi Langa is currently in Sweden, representing South Africa through University Sport South Africa (USSA) at the FISU World Forum, while also representing DUT as a student leader.

The FISU World Forum brings together student leaders and university sport representatives from around the world to engage, share ideas and explore how sport can contribute to the development and wellbeing of students.

This year’s discussions focus on the theme “Healthy Mind, Healthy Body,” highlighting the role of sport in promoting physical health, mental wellbeing, leadership, inclusion and positive student experiences.

For Mongezi, the opportunity provides a chance to learn from global university sport leaders and bring those insights back to DUT to contribute towards strengthening the University’s sports culture and creating a healthier, more inclusive environment for students.

Mongezi serves as the DUT Sports Union Chairperson and DUT Rugby Chairman, and is a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Screen Arts and Technology student. He was recently appointed to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of USSA, marking another significant milestone in his leadership journey within university sport.

Hailing from Msinga in KwaZulu-Natal and a rugby player himself, Mongezi’s involvement in university sport continues to create opportunities for him to grow as a leader while contributing to the development of sport at DUT and beyond.

His journey reflects the opportunities that student leadership can create, from campus leadership, to national representation, and now to the international university sport stage.
