Human Capital Services (HCS) at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) hosted its third-quarter Staff Orientation and Induction session on 16 September 2026, welcoming new employees and providing them with key information to support their transition into the University.
The orientation provided an opportunity for new employees to meet colleagues, familiarise themselves with DUT’s institutional structures and understand the policies, services and resources available to them as they begin their journey at the University.
The programme was coordinated by HCS: Organisational Development and Talent Management and facilitated by Ms Kirshni Rhyman, Skills Development Officer within HCS. Opening the session, Director: Organisational Development and Talent Management, Ms Helen Mogorosi, welcomed the new employees and wished them well as they begin their careers at DUT.

One of the key sessions focused on institutional governance and leadership structures. Senior Director of Human Capital Services, Mr Victor Mothobi, provided an overview of the University’s governance structures and explained the respective roles and areas of accountability within the institution.
New employees were also introduced to DUT’s ENVISION2030 strategy through a virtual welcome address by Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu. He highlighted the progress made through ENVISION2030 and emphasised that every employee, regardless of their department or role, contributes to the University’s success.
Ms Mogorosi also presented on Performance Management, highlighting the importance of aligning employees’ performance agreements with the four strategic perspectives of ENVISION2030. She further introduced employees to the Living Values Framework and explained how the University’s values and principles contribute to its institutional culture.

Transformation and Equity was also discussed, with employees receiving an overview of the principles and their application within the University.
Ms Fikile Sithole, Manager: Talent Sourcing and Operations, provided an overview of HCS Business Partnering and Talent Acquisition. She explained the role of the Human Capital Business Partner team in supporting employees and line managers, while promoting fair, consistent and effective people management practices across DUT.
Mr Mxolisi Msomi, Director: Employee Relations and Wellness, introduced employees to the role of the Employee Relations and Wellness unit. He outlined the unit’s role in supporting positive employer-employee relationships, addressing workplace concerns, facilitating grievance and disciplinary processes and promoting cooperation between employees and management.
The wellness component of the session also introduced employees to Life Health Solutions, DUT’s outsourced employee wellness service provider, which supports the well-being of University employees.
Information and Communication Technology Services (ICTS) Customer Services Director, Mr NJ Nkorwana, provided an overview of ICTS services, with a particular focus on cybersecurity, data privacy and the University’s call logging system. He highlighted the importance of protecting employee accounts and institutional information and explained how employees can access ICTS support.
Ms Pumeza Sundu, Director: Remuneration and Benefits, introduced employees to the range of benefits available to DUT staff and provided guidance on accessing the relevant policies, forms and processes.
Learning and Development was presented by Ms Londiwe Mthethwa, Talent and Skills Facilitator, who highlighted opportunities available to employees to support their professional growth and development. She also explained the distinction between different development opportunities and guided employees on the relevant policies and application processes.
The session provided new employees with an opportunity to engage with key areas of the University while gaining a better understanding of the support available to them.
The programme reinforced the importance of aligning individual roles and responsibilities with DUT’s ENVISION2030 strategy and Living Values, while equipping new employees with information to support their successful integration into the University.
Human Capital Services welcomed all new employees to DUT and wished them well as they begin their journey with the University.
