Clinton Marius meets with DUT Drama students

Award-winning playwright Clinton Marius will be profiled in the 2012 Annual Young Audiences’ Festival taking place in September. Working closely with first year students and utilising his expertise, Marius will write the script for the play.

On March13 he met and engaged with the cast comprising of first year Drama Studies students and brainstormed content for the play. “Writing for children is unlike writing for adults. You aim to entertain and educate; it’s important to include life lessons,” said Marius. What the writer aims to do with this play is to feature a completely African story with a strong message for children. He also seeks to incorporate music and dance.

On being selected for this task Marius said: “I am so excited. Working with future players in the industry will challenge me as a writer. I look forward to hearing their stories and ideas for the play. This will be a learning experience for all of us.” He commended the Drama and Production Studies department for featuring local writers and allowing writers to use contemporary pieces.
