DUT IT Department To Honour Top Students

The Faculty of Accounting and Informatics’ Department of Information Technology will hold its Annual Student Awards Ceremony on Thursday (16 October 2014) this week at DUT’s Mansfield Hall, Ritson Campus, from 12h30 to 15h30.

Certificates and prizes sponsored by industry partners will be awarded to 34 awardees from the Information Technology and Financial Information Systems programmes. The categories for the awards are as follows:

Achievement of Excellence
Awarded to the candidate who achieved the highest distinction average for all subjects in a particular year of study.

Merit
Awarded to the candidate who achieved the second highest distinction average for all subjects in a particular year of study.

Achievement
Awarded to the candidate who achieved the highest percentage for all subjects in a particular year of study and this may not be a distinction.

Best Software Project
Awarded to the Development Software 3 group of students who produced the project with the best functionality as judged by industry experts.

Best Developed Project
Awarded to the Development Software 3 group of students who produced the project with the best model, documentation, functionality, design and implementation as judged by the mentors, examiners and moderators.

Best Bachelor of Technology Project
Awarded to the candidate who produced the best research project within the Bachelor of Technology qualification.

Special Achievement
Awarded to a candidate who has shown exceptional progress in a particular year of study.

Graduate of the Year
Awarded to the candidate who obtained the highest overall distinction average over all modules towards the Bachelor of Technology qualification.

Diplomate of the Year
Awarded to the candidate who obtained the highest overall distinction average over all three years of study towards the Diploma qualification.

Best Research Dissertation
This is a new category and is awarded to the candidate who completed within the minimum time and obtained the highest percentage for their research dissertation towards the Master of Technology qualification.

“Awards are presented to top performing and deserving students, in recognition of their hard work and outstanding achievement and is also a way of encouraging our students to work to the best of their ability,” said Ugeshni Moodley, IT Lecturer at DUT.
