The Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA) and the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) has awarded Durban University of Technology lecturer Ms Sherlien Prithepaul the National Excellence in Teaching and Learning Award.

At the event that took place at the University’s Hotel School, Prithepaul was congratulated by her fellow co-workers and the management of DUT. Speaking moments after receiving her award she said, “I’m very excited about tonight, it is an honour for me to be awarded with this prestigious award considering that there are four other recipients from other Universities that are Professors and Doctors.”

Sherlien Prithepaul has been lecturing in Immunology and Microbiology at DUT since 2000, in the Department of Biomedical and Clinical Technology. Chairperson of HELTASA, Dr Matete Madiba said “You have dedicated a great part of your life to your work, it is an honour for us to award you today.” Only academics (lectures and academic development practitioners) at South African public higher education institutions are eligible for this award. Ms P, as she is known to her students, is the only lecturer from a University of Technology to receive this award.
