Student Services & Development (Midlands) held a celebration function for the choir on Friday 19 August 2011. Vice-Chancellor Professor Ahmed Bawa congratulated the choir on their wonderful performance and promised to listen to one of their future performances. The function was well attended and warmly
appreciated by all the choristers as well as all guests that attended the function.

The Director of Student Services and Development, Ms Fathima Haffajee warmly welcomed all present. She emphasized the importance of song in nourishing the spirit, thanking the Choir for contributing so richly to student life.

On a lighter note, she reminisced about her own days as a chorister at school and confessed that her skill was put to shame by the all-round good performance of the DUT Choir!

The Student Life Officer, Mr Ngculu thanked the Choir for their dedication, their conduct and their achievements. He emphasized that they had been good ambassadors for DUT at large.

The Chairperson of the Choir, Mr Sihle Mbatha, thanked the choristers for their co-operation. He indicated that as much as the road to success has been rocky, it had all been worth it. He put a challenge to the University to give more support to the choir, firmly dedicating the choir to do even more.

The man of the moment, Mr Mdu Shezi – the conductor of the choir, also thanked the choristers. He was emotional when explaining the pain of having to leave behind some of the dedicated choristers because only sixty five could go to the competition. He challenged the male singers to embark on a mission of friendly competition, and to out-perform their female counterparts.

Mr Mbatha, from the sports department concluded the proceedings for the Department by thanking the choir for putting the University on the map. He paid personal testimony [as he was in Tshwane] of the choir’s conduct and singing as top-notch. He encouraged the choir to use that which was at their disposal to soar to greater heights. He thanked Ms Sibongile Bulose for putting together and being the MC of such a wonderful ceremony.
