The Student Housing Department (Midlands) at DUT will host its 4th Annual Student Housing Awards this weekend.

The event seeks to recognise those who have excelled in the Department’s programmes that have been taking place throughout the year. The Department (Midlands) has a population of 2500 students at its residences who participate in different fields, namely:

• AGCI (African Green Campus Initiative), which includes “green” initiatives such as gardening as well as water and electricity conservation campaigns.
• Tutorial projects to achieve academic excellence.
• Sports activities.

The Residences (18 in total), compete amongst each other throughout the year and all get an opportunity to be awarded at the Annual Student Housing Awards ceremony.

Some of the categories include:

• Cleanest Residence, which promotes elements of hygiene at residences.
• Best AGCI Residence. Midlands residences have competed with other Universities at a National level for this award and obtained first position.
• Teams who have excelled in Sports
• Academic awards
• Ubuntu Award. In this category, the main award is awarded to the student who has set a good example by showing compassion to other students. The winner is voted for by their fellow students.
