DUT’s Chiropractic Rugby team recently achieved second place in the 2011 Steinhoff University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard Campus (SUHC) Inter-faculty League. The team was established in 2006 by former student, Charlton Butt with the aim of building unity among chiropractic students.

In 2008 under the management of Rory Tychsen, the team won the SUHC Inter-faculty League after beating UKZN’s Civil Engineering team. The 2011 team is headed by forth year students, Cuan Coetzee and Leendert Bruin. The team came close to winning the 2011 Steinhoff UKZN Campus Inter-faculty League when they beat UKZN’s Mechanical Engineering team 26-0, and UKZN Westville team 31-0. After qualifying to play in the finals they lost 14-0 to UKZN’s Sport Administration Rugby Team.

Team manager, Coetzee said: “We’re definitely going to try and regain the SUHC Inter-faculty League next year. I would like to see a second team from another faculty sent to the league with us and for the team to play the University of Johannesburg Chiropractic team as part of a spinal or health awareness campaign.”
