Dut Gender Forum Crowns Lulu Jali

Lulu Jali has won a trophy at this year’s annual Staff Fun Walk held at the Durban University of Technology’s ML Sultan campus in Durban, Tuesday.

The Internal Auditing and Accounting lecturer expressed joy after crossing the finish line. She said that she has been in the game for a long time. “I joined the Gender Forum since I started working at DUT. I’m in it for fitness and to stay active,” said the Ladies Spar runner.

Jali has also participated in the Chatsworth’s fun run and age doesn’t stop her from doing what she loves. “I’m well in 50’s now but I started when I was in my 30’s,” she added.

The DUT’s Gender Forum hosted their 2 nd annual Staff Fun Walk that allowed only staff members to participate in the two hour walk. The Chairperson for the Gender Forum, Ranilla Pillay said, “Only staff members are allowed to join in the Fun Walk and we have about 130 participants today.”

The walk started at ML Sultan Campus and the participants walked on Sydenham Road, past Botanic Gardens and went back to ML Sultan on Steve Biko Road. All participants were given white t-shirts at the starting line and they were guided by Marshals dressed in red vests and were also accompanied by Citi-med Hospital vehicle for emergencies during the walk.

Other prices included tickets, lucky draws and handy bags. They were handed over to those who won on their specific categories.

Executive Committee member, Jay Naidoo said that prices are sponsored and it’s the role of the committee to get sponsors for the event. Some of the prices sponsored were for breakfast for a pair at the restaurant chosen by the sponsors.

To make it more fun, the organisers had invited fitness instructors to entertain and teach the participants by showing them different ways of staying fit. Shortly after the walk, some of the participants received an optional massage treatment and the Zumba dance from fitness instructors.
