Exhibition of ‘Women for Children’ Art and Poetry Collection

Exhibition of ‘Women for Children’ Art and Poetry Collection

The Durban University of Technology and Arts for Humanity cordially invite you to celebrate Women’s month with an exhibition of the ‘Women for Children’ art and poetry collection.

The exhibition which will be opened by Prof Nqabomzi Gawe, the University’s former Deputy Vice-Chancellor, will take place at DUT’s Art Gallery in Steve Biko Campus from 12th to 29 August 2014.

The collection that will be exhibited was created in 2006, with the aim of giving visibility to the voice of women and to create a platform through which they could express their concerns regarding the rights and welfare of all children.

The art prints and poetry were created by 25 women artists and 25 poets primarily from South Africa, the developing world and also from the international community. Artists and poets include South Africa’s foremost and internationally recognised artists and poets such as Lebogang Mashile, Karen Press, Judith Mason, Berni Searle, Gabeba Baderoon and others who have ensured that their voices became part of our cultural heritage and thereby remain relevant and accessible for future generations.

The high quality of the art and poetry is internationally recognised and appear in public collections both here in South Africa and internationally. The collections are on display at the Durban Art Gallery, National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh, South African Parliament and Cape Town.
