Graduates should help build the nation, Prof Bawa

The Durban University of Technology graduation season is still proceeding.

Friends and family were pouring into the Fred Crookes Sports Centre on Tuesday, 17 April, where the degrees and diplomas of the Faculty of Management Sciences were conferred in the first session.

Doctor Lavern Samuels, the Director of International Education and Partnerships congratulated the granduands.

He said: “It is your success. You’ve earned it and no one can take it away from you.”

DUT Vice Chancellor and Principal, Professor Ahmed Bawa was elated to see the granduands of this faculty as he said these will be the future entrepreneurs of the country. Quoting Clem Sunter, Chair of the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund, he said job creation can best be done by small enterprises.

“You must help South Africa reach its highest level of integrity and ethics.

You must help build a society that is more humane and equitable. Each generation has its nation building task and this is your task,” Prof Bawa said.

To reach this goal, Prof Bawa urged the prospective workers to return to DUT to pursue higher qualifications.
