Our country has come a long way since 1994. We owe it to ourselves to focus on the future that lies ahead – a future that we hope is alive with possibility. The theme for this year’s Human Rights Day (‘Remember the past and Celebrate the future on Human Rights Day) is not just a theme but it is speaks of actions and intentions. It encourages each one of us to walk into the future with our rights but also remembering how those rights came about, therefore, it is essential that one remembers that although our human rights are what we are celebrating – we also honour the responsibility that they come with. We as the family of the Durban University of Technology always dedicate ourselves in assuring that we embrace the rights of each and every student, staff member and everyone who is a part of the DUT community. With that in mind, we would like to wish you a happy Human Rights Day and a safe, blessed and most peaceful human rights weekend.
