He Was Happiest With His Head Stuck In His Books

Trevoulin Govender had no social life and instead chose to spend the majority of his time with his head stuck in his books.

The 20 year old from Kharwastan, near Chatsworth, who had no social life; preferring learning over partying enjoyed the fruits of his labour today (Monday 16 April) as he graduated Cum Laude and earned himself a National Dimploma in Video Technology.

“I’m overwhelmed; I didn’t expect this especially because I’ve never received an award at video festivals. My parents were also shocked. But they congratulated me. They are very very proud,” he said.

Govender said he sacrificed a lot to graduate with high honors, saying that he had “zero” social life. “I had little time to socialize. The workload was hectic”, he said.

Govender finished his matric at Kharwastan Secondary School. He said coming to DUT was a “different experience” and he found it hard to relate to his peers. “I didn’t enjoy being on campus for the first and second year of study. I found it hard to communicate; it was hard to find common ground. There were a lot of people who wanted to party and go out, and this didn’t excite me,” he said.

Govender is currently pursuing his Btech in Video Technology at DUT. He plans to establish a web design business as soon as he completes this year’s studies. His advice to other young people? “Be yourself. Work hard and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise,” said Govender.
