Conference on the Impact of Internationalisation on the Quality of Higher Education (includes a lecture with Greenpeace’s Kumi Naidoo)
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) will host the 15th Annual International Education Association of South Africa (IEASA) conference on “The Impact of Internationalisation on the Quality of Higher Education”.
Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Ahmed Bawa will deliver the opening and welcome address. Ms Merle Hodges, President of IEASA will launch the Study SA Guide. Keynote speakers are Dr Kampaus from Georgia State University, USA and Prof Brian O’Connell from the University of the Western Cape who will talk on International Research Collaboration as a tool to address global challenges.
The conference will be preceded by workshops and a student conference. University administrators, academics, researchers and student leaders from 23 different universities in South Africa and abroad will participate in this international conference. Countries like Belgium, India, Nigeria, the UK and USA will be presented at the conference.
Dr Kumi Naidoo, the Executive Director of Greenpeace International will deliver a talk on “Global challenges facing higher education” on Wednesday 31 August 2011.
The International Education Association of South Africa is a non-profit organisation, which was established as a result of the need for universities and universities of technology in South Africa to respond to international educational trends. If South Africa is to remain competitive within the global economic environment it is important that our higher education provides opportunities for students to obtain a global perspective to their studies. It also opens up international contacts which will benefit students, tertiary institutions and assists South Africa to be a competitor and participant in world markets.
IEASA strives to:
Take a pro-active role in policy-making which affects international education.
Maintain on-going communication and cooperative relationships with government departments and appropriate statutory and other bodies, with a view to participating in policy-making which affects international education.
Monitor government policy and procedures on issues affecting international students and academic or administrative visitors from abroad.
