The Durban University of Technology rewarded hard work and excellence at the Information of Technology and Financial Systems Awards event held at Ritson Campus, Mansfield Hall recently.

As part of motivating the awardees and First years, DUT invited former student Melusi Maseko, a sequel developer for ABSA Capital who discussed the challenges faced by students.

“The tertiary is here to give you wings . . . follow your heart and intuition and you will never go wrong,” said Maseko.

The DUT alumnus said personality traits are important in the working world and help an individual to develop professionally. He emphasized that when graduates are fresh from university, they still have a lot to learn.

“Marks matter, together with your attitude. Have that humility and you will go far,” concluded Maseko.

One of the big winners of the day Nellinie Pillay, 23, who took home three trophies and a laptop, said hard work pays off. The diplomate of the year summed up her achievements by saying: “Gosh, I’m very excited and very happy!”
