Important Update by Professor Ahmed Bawa, Vice-Chancellor and Principal

Dear all
Following the violent student protest action which has been led by the SRC at DUT, I have announced that the University will suspend its full academic programme until further notice. The University has been forced to make this decision as the SRC led student protests compromised the safety of our students and staff and resulted in unfavorable conditions on campus.

In line with the above, all students in residence, both on and off campus at DUT, will have to vacate their rooms by no later than 12H00 midday on Thursday 30 January 2014, as all residences will be closed.
The University will continue to communicate with our students, staff and members of the media during the closure.
The current conditions at DUT are not conducive to maintain the academic programme and we cannot further compromise the safety of our students, staff and property.

The shutdown period will be used to bring about stability on the campus and to create the conditions that will be appropriate for teaching and learning to resume.

Yours sincerely,
Prof. Ahmed C Bawa
Vice-Chancellor and Principal
