Promoting Health and Wellness, An Essential Part of Life

The Isolempilo Campus Health Clinic in the Department of Student Counselling and Health at DUT held the Annual Health and Wellness Day that took place last week (16 April 2014) at the Ritson Campus.

Held from 9am to 2pm, the event featured organisations and resources promoting healthy living for student for and staff.

This event presented students with the opportunity to raise awareness about health and wellness issues as well as assisting them with personal, psychological, legal and financial issues. A variety of informative and fun activities including board games (focusing on health edutainment) were part of the long commemorated event.

The Isolempilo Campus Health Clinic is fully aware that each individual is on a different level of readiness to make decisions about their health. The main focus was on building awareness, conducting assessments (HIV testing, blood pressure, blood sugar, height and weight measurements), donating blood, promoting use of contraceptives as well as male and female condoms and providing a variety of programmes to support students and staff on their journey to complete wellness.

The event was co-ordinated by Senior Professional Nurse; Nomvuyo Mbewu and staff of Isolempilo Clinic in partnership with LifeLine, Bayer Health, Mental Health, Dental Health, SANBS, iThembalabantu, Legal Wise, Student Counseling, HIV/AIDS Centre, Homeopathy, Virgin Active, Spec Savers,, ICAP, Citimed, SADD, Epilepsy, AA, Herbal Life , E D Mark, Herbal Life and Epilepsy.

The event was proudly sponsored by ABI (Coca Cola), Rose Clinic, Axcess Marketing, Kendon and Kharwastan.

The Isolempilo Clinic Manager; Chief Professional Nurse Sooriagandhi Wardthen thanked all the service providers and internal departments of the Durban University of Technology for their participation at this event.
