RadioDUT Is Officially Live

Students were out in masses, large speakers pumping the latest tunes and energetic radio personalities were all blended together to produce the much-awaited RadioDUT launch which was held on Friday 25 July 2014, at the Steve Biko Campus Food Court area.

RadioDUT is not just another university radio station but rather a brand which aims to make a meaningful contribution to our community and act as a voice of the students. The creation of the radio station ties in with the university’s digital migration strategic plan to create something that will allow DUT to move into that phase. The radio station’s key principle is to focus on being different from existing radio stations, choosing a focus dedicated to relevant content that appeals to our target audience.

On the line-up were up and coming musicians such as D.C.E, Mzwenhlanhla and DUT’s very own Sfiso-K. The electric performances brought the crowd to their feet and had them cheering at the peak of their voices.

RadioDUT personalities and events hosts, Luyanda Khambule and Londeka Shabane were hospitable, engaging and entertaining the crowd every step of the way. A dance battle initiated by Red Bull called ‘The RedBull Challenge’ pushed confident dancers to hit the stage showing off their amazing moves.

With Cell C, Blackberry, Trade and Investment KZN and Red bull as sponsors, the event was a definite win as the event-backers added perks to the affair showering crowds with gifts.

The newly formed radio station airs LIVE news at the top of each hour, a breakfast show between 9 and 11am, a vibrant midday show and The Afternoon Drive show from 3 to 5pm every Monday to Friday. The station also broadcast on Saturdays between 9am and 6pm and is currently working on a Sunday slot to entertain listener 7days a week.
