Top Three DUT IT Projects to be Recognised

Top Three DUT IT Projects to be Recognised

The Department of Information Technology (IT) at the Durban University of Technology will announce the top three IT projects from its third-year class on Friday 19 October 2012 at an event to be held at the Hotel School on Ritson Campus.

As part of their course, third-year information technology students were tasked to obtain exposure for the development of a real life Information System (IS). Students were placed into groups and they were required to submit proposals for projects in the retail, services, manufacturing, government, NGO and small business sectors.

Once the proposals were approved, the groups had to complete a feasibility study and analyse the business requirements. The groups needed to design a solution for their client and then importantly, implement the specifically designed solution. As a final step, the groups then tested their projects.

The course culminates with a final presentation, which encapsulates the various phases and the final product. The ultimate aim is for each student to be exposed to the development of a practical IS. The Department hosts this event annually to showcase all third year projects, thereafter naming the top three projects. These are critiqued by a judging panel which includes individuals from industry, who also give the groups feedback.
