Wiseman blows Musho Festival audience away

Wiseman Mncube, a DUT Drama Studies graduate, made waves at the seventh annual Musho Festival held in Durban recently. He received the Best Actor/Performer and Standing Ovation awards for his role in Samson Mlambo’s one-man show “Meet Bro Six-Two”, taking home the most sought-after awards of the event.
Mncube recalled the defining moment. “To be honest, I just went blank. We all wanted [those awards] but I didn’t expect that I would win them.”
“It was my first time performing at a professional level – I just completed my studies last year. To scoop not one but two awards was an honour.”
The play was equally popular, receiving an Audience award. This can be attributed to the profound message of the story as it draws attention to unemployment, an underlying cause of the high crime rate in the country. It tracks the life of Bro Six-Two, his experiences and adversities and how he resorts to crime to make ends meet. Bro Six-Two’s story symbolizes the everyday issues facing South African youth. It also reminds the audience of one crucial element – empathy.
Even in the presence of industry veterans, 22-year old Mncube’s talent shone, bringing to the fore the exceptional writing and directing skills of DUT alumnus Samson Mlambo. Although playing multiple characters was initially challenging, Mncube admits this improved his performing capacity.
He said he was elated to share the stage with prominent actors including Andrew Buckland and Tristan Jacob among others. Moving forward, the actor intends working even harder to better his craft. He is eager to perform another one-man act.
