A Joyous Chinese New Year Gala Was Held At The Durban City Hall

The Durban University of Technology Confucius Institute in conjunction with the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Consulate General of China in Durban and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Tourism hosted the Chinese Spring Festival Gala to celebrate the Chinese Lunar Year of the Rat at the Durban City Hall, last Wednesday (22 January 2020).

The festival was attended by the likes of the Consul General of Consulate of China in Durban, Fei Mingxing, DUT Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Thandwa Mthembu, DUT Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement, Professor Sibusiso Moyo, the DUT CI’s Co-Dean, Wu Lin, eThekwini Municipality’s Councillor Sibongiseni Mkhize and various other local stakeholders and Chinese representative.

In his address, DUT CI Co-Dean, Wu Lin invited guests to enjoy the exciting performances and the special Sichuan culture exhibition that was displaying Sichuan food and beautiful sceneries as well as other cultural presentations. This impressed guests as this was shown in their continuous applause and laughter during the celebration.

“The amazing show from the Sichuan province provided great joy and comfort to Durban citizens and all overseas Chinese visitors,” said Wu Lin. The Sichuan Opera face, acrobatics, magic and tea ceremony were very popular and the audience admired these superb skills of the Chinese artists that night.
